Albert Barkley served six terms in the U.S. House of Representative from 1913 to 1927 and four terms as the U.S Senator from 1927 to 1949. After serving as the U.S. vice president to Harry Truman in 1949, Barkley once again held office in the U.S. Senate from 1955 to 1956. In 1952, Barkley briefly campaigned as a Democratic presidential candidate, but ultimately withdrew his nomination from the race.
