Everett Dirksen

United States, 1896 - 1969
Everett Dirksen represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives and, later, in the U.S. Senate where, as a Republican, he served as Senate Minority leader from 1959-1969. He was an ally to President Johnson in passage of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1968. He was also a strong supporter of the Vietnam war during the 1960s.
