Eshkol served as Israel’s third Prime Minister from 1963-1969, when he died of a heart attack. He was the first Israeli official to be formally invited to the White House. His relationship with President Lyndon Johnson affected Israel-U.S. relations and later the Six-Day War. He was a founder of the Israeli Labor Party and served as minister of defense and minister of finance.
