1909 - 1997
Charles George Werner, d. July 2, 1997; Indianapolis editorial cartoonist ; youngest person (29 yrs. old) ever to win a Pulitzer Prize in his field; began his career in 1930 at The Springfield (Mo.) Leader and Press as an artist and photographer; 5 yrs. later he joined the Oklahoman in the art department and was promoted to editorial cartoonist in 1937; hired by the Chicago Sun in 1941; left for the Indianapolis Star in 1947 and retired from the paper in 1994
