Don Orehek was born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 9, 1928. After serving in the United States Navy Reserves from 1945 until 1949, he studied cartooning and illustration at the School of Visual Arts from 1949 until 1952. He worked as a freelance cartoonist, contributing cartoons to a wide variety of newspapers, magazines and books.
