James Dent

1928 - 1992
James Dent made a career in the newspaper business at the Charleston (West Virginia) Gazette. As a West Virginia native, he started as a copy boy at the paper while at West Virginia University and later became a reporter. He is best known as a humorist , columnist and cartoonist for the newspaper. Reader’s Digest reprinted 194 of his columns. His cartoons and columns had a liberal slant and some 5,700 pieces of his work are at the West Virginia State Archives.
