Served as prime minister of Italy for more than six years, from December 1963 to June 1968, and from November 1974 to July 1976. He was a prominent member of the Christian Democracy. He was kidnapped and later killed in 1978. He implemented a series of social and economic reforms, aimed at modernizing Italy.
