United States Ambassador to South Vietnam (1967-1973)

Under the Truman administration, Ellsworth Bunker served as the ambassador to Argentina (1951 -1952) and Italy (1952-1953). Afterwards, President Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed Bunker as ambassador to India (1956-1961), and President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed him as ambassador to South Vietnam (1967-1973). Bunker received the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction twice, first from John F. Kennedy in 1963 and again from Lyndon B. Johnson in 1967. Married to Assistant Secretary of State, Carol Laise.
