Mayor of Chicago 1955-1976

Richard J. Daley served as a state representative and senator in the Illinois General Assembly from 1938 to 1946. In 1948, Daley worked as the state director of revenue before being appointed clerk of Cook County in 1950. Daley was elected mayor of Chicago in 1955 and served six terms until his death in 1976.
