Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man writes ("Yankee Stay Home") on a wall and another man carries a sign ("Unkle Sam is Unfair to Subversion --The Communist."). A third man shouts. On the wall there is a note ("House passes resolution to combat communism in western hemisphere”). Caption: “Predictable Pickets”. Artist signature lower right: "Saylor”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "To the President, best wishes, Bill Saylor”.
Historical NoteOn October 3, 1965, President Johnson signed the Immigration Act of 1965 into law which, among other immigration policy changes, guaranteed asylum for Cuban refugees. The US government set up the Freedom Flights airlift program and overall, about 300,000 Cubans immigrated to the United States over the next eight years.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
