Between them, a small figure (identifiable as Charles de Gaulle) ("Third Force") talks to Russia, gesturing at LBJ. Caption reads: "Let's Ignore HIM". Artist signature lower right: "Brooks The Birmingham News".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "To President Lyndon Johnson, with best wishes - Brooks 7-18-66". Handwritten across bottom: "- make 29 picas wide -" "-Sunday - June 26th .1966."
Historical NoteThe Third Force was a political alliance in Fourth Republic France from 1947-1958, where the center-left and center-right formed a coalition as opposed to the left and right wing voting bases. This cartoon criticizes the term by implying that the French government is siding more with the leftist Soviet Union than the United States.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
