Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ ("Western Powers") and a man (identifiable as Leonid Brezhnev "Russia") are in bed with the covers up to their chins watching the wind ("Recklessness of Red China") blow in through an open window. The corners of the bed have nuclear bombs. Caption: “Should Co-Existence Be Forgot —”. Artist signature lower left: "Vic Runtz news ‘65”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower left: [blue] “3 col” [illegible] “Ed Page Tues”. Handwritten across bottom: “Bangor Daily News - Sept. 21, 1965”.
Historical NoteThe Sino-Soviet split were the tensions between China and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Although both nations were Communist, they competed with each other over the same spheres of influence. As a result, the United States had to practice triangular diplomacy to maintain relations with both Communist powers.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
