Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ, a policeman, points his arms ("Managed Farm Economy") in different ways, leading to confusion in the vehicles ("Wheat Referendum Defeated”, “Billy Sol Estes”, “Corrupt Political Gains”, “Parity Ratio at 34-Year Low”) on the street. A sign (“Orville Freeman Attorney”) has had the last word crossed out and new text (“Secretary of Agriculture and Friend of the Farmer”) written underneath. Artist signature lower left: "Jack Bender.”.
Historical NoteIn 1965, Lyndon Johnson signed the Food and Agriculture Act to increase farmers' wages and ensure that food prices do not get too high. It also promoted cotton and wheat exports in foreign markets.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
