Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A fatigued LBJ speaks to a man ("Valenti") and they sit together around LBJ's Oval Office desk. Papers ("Dirksen Criticism", "Mao Threats", "Ho Chi Minh", "Budget", "Soviet Leaders") cover the desk. Caption reads: "Jack, I Sure Envy You Having Someone Who Makes Sleeping at Night Better". Historical NoteJack Valenti was an advisor to President Johnson. This cartoon references his 1965 quote, “I sleep each night a little better, a little more confidently, because Lyndon Johnson is my president.” In 1966, he left the White House to be the president of the Motion Picture Association of America. In 1968, he would later create the MPAA rating system, replacing the Hays Code.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
